SkinVive by Juvéderm in Los Angeles: What It Does, What It Costs and How Long It Lasts

    Last updated: September 2026

By Beauty Ranch Medical Spa | Medically reviewed by the Beauty Ranch clinical team | Last updated September 11, 2026

Quick answer: SkinVive by Juvéderm is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable that improves skin smoothness and hydration without adding volume. It was approved for the cheeks in 2023 and, as of June 2026, for reducing neck lines. Results appear within about two weeks and last up to six months. At Beauty Ranch Medical Spa in Brentwood, Los Angeles, SkinVive is $450 per syringe and is performed by our team of board-certified Physician Assistants and Registered Nurses.

If you have ever wanted the glow of a great facial to last six months instead of six days, SkinVive is the injectable built for that. It is not a filler, it does not change your face shape, and it is not a biostimulator like Sculptra. It is a skin quality treatment: thousands of hyaluronic acid microdroplets placed just under the surface to hold water in the skin, smooth fine texture and give the "glass skin" finish that K-beauty made famous. Beauty Ranch has offered SkinVive since its US launch, and with the FDA's June 2026 approval of SkinVive for neck lines, it now covers the two areas clients ask about most.

This guide covers how SkinVive works, who it is for, the new neck indication and the clinical data behind it, what it costs in Los Angeles, how long it lasts, and how it compares to Sculptra, traditional filler, Rejuran and Profhilo.

    What Is SkinVive by Juvéderm?

SkinVive is a modified hyaluronic acid gel from the makers of Juvéderm, designed to be injected as tiny microdroplets into the dermis rather than as a bolus of volume. Hyaluronic acid binds many times its weight in water, so once the microdroplets are in place they act like a reservoir of hydration inside the skin. The FDA cleared it in 2023 as the first and only hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable in the US for improving skin smoothness of the cheeks.

The easiest way to think about it: filler changes shape, Sculptra builds structure, SkinVive improves the skin itself. For the wider category, see our guide to injectable biostimulators and skin boosters.

    How SkinVive Works

During treatment, your injector places a grid of very small injections across the cheeks (or neck), each depositing a microdroplet of hyaluronic acid into the upper dermis. Over the next one to two weeks the microdroplets integrate with the surrounding tissue and draw in water. The skin becomes smoother, more hydrated, more reflective of light, and fine crepey texture softens. Because the product is placed shallow and in tiny amounts, there is no added volume and no change to your facial contours.

Beauty Ranch uses a very fine needle or microcannula technique with a numbing cream beforehand, so the treatment is quick and comfortable.

New in 2026: SkinVive for Neck Lines

On June 16, 2026, the FDA approved SkinVive by Juvéderm to reduce neck lines for improvement of neck appearance in adults over 21, the first product of its kind approved for the neck. In the pivotal study, 74.8 percent of treated patients had a clinically meaningful improvement in horizontal neck lines at one month, and 66 percent still had that improvement at six months.

This matters because horizontal neck lines ("tech neck") have been one of the hardest things to treat without surgery. Botox does not address them, and traditional filler in the neck carries a lumpiness risk. SkinVive's microdroplet approach was built for exactly this kind of thin, crepey skin. Beauty Ranch offers SkinVive for the neck now; pair it with XERF or Ultherapy if laxity is also part of the picture. See our guide to getting rid of jowls without surgery for the full lower-face and neck menu. Read our full guide to getting rid of neck lines and tech neck.

What SkinVive Improves (and What It Does Not)

SkinVive is a good fit if you want:

    • Smoother, more hydrated cheeks with a lasting glow
    • Softening of fine lines and crepey texture on the cheeks
    • Reduction of horizontal neck lines
    • A "no one can tell but everyone notices" result before an event
    • A skin-quality upgrade alongside Botox, filler or Sculptra
    • The K-beauty glass skin look without the daily 10-step routine

SkinVive does not add volume, does not treat deep folds or sagging, and does not replace sun protection or retinoids. If volume loss or laxity is your main concern, Sculptra, filler, XERF or Ultherapy will get you further, and SkinVive can be layered on top.

Where SkinVive Is Approved to Be Used

SkinVive is FDA approved for two areas: the cheeks, to improve skin smoothness, and the neck, to reduce neck lines. Beauty Ranch treats both. If your concern is in another area, your consultation will cover which of our other treatments fits it.

What a SkinVive Appointment Is Like

After a skin assessment, numbing cream is applied for about 15 minutes. The injections take 10 to 15 minutes per area. You will see small raised bumps at each injection point immediately; these flatten within a few hours to a couple of days. Total visit is about 30 to 45 minutes.

    Downtime, Side Effects and Aftercare

SkinVive has minimal downtime. Expect small bumps, mild redness, tenderness and occasionally light bruising for one to three days. Avoid makeup for 12 hours, and avoid heavy exercise, alcohol, saunas and facials for 24 to 48 hours. Do not massage the area unless your injector tells you to. Because SkinVive is hyaluronic acid, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase in the rare case that is needed.

SkinVive Results: Before and After, and How Long It Lasts

The glow builds over the first two weeks as the microdroplets integrate. Peak results are at about one month and last up to six months, after which the hyaluronic acid gradually and evenly breaks down. Most clients repeat treatment twice a year. For the neck, the clinical data showed two thirds of patients still improved at six months.

How SkinVive compares to the other skin quality and volume injectables at Beauty Ranch.

SkinVive vs Sculptra. Different jobs. Sculptra builds collagen and structure over months; SkinVive hydrates and smooths the surface within weeks. They pair well: Sculptra for the foundation, SkinVive for the finish. Read our full Sculptra vs SkinVive comparison.

SkinVive vs filler. Filler adds volume and reshapes; SkinVive does neither. If you like your face shape and want better skin, SkinVive. If you want cheekbones or lips, filler. See dermal fillers in Los Angeles.

SkinVive vs Rejuran. SkinVive is an injectable hyaluronic acid that hydrates; Rejuran is PDRN delivered with microneedling that stimulates repair. Many of our K-beauty clients do both, alternating every few months. Read our salmon sperm facial guide.

SkinVive vs Profhilo. Profhilo is popular in the UK and Europe but is not FDA approved, so it is not available in the US. SkinVive is the FDA-approved alternative with a similar hydration goal.

    Who Should Not Get SkinVive

SkinVive is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection or cold sore in the area, have a history of severe allergic reactions or allergy to lidocaine, or are prone to keloid scarring. Tell your injector about blood thinners and recent dental work.

    Frequently Asked Questions About SkinVive

    Is SkinVive really worth it?

For smoother, more hydrated, glowier skin that lasts up to six months, yes. It is not worth it if your goal is volume or tightening; those need Sculptra, filler, XERF or Ultherapy. Most clients who love SkinVive are the ones who want better skin, not a different face.

What is better, Sculptra or SkinVive?

Neither is better; they do different things. Sculptra builds collagen and volume over months and lasts two years. SkinVive hydrates and smooths the skin surface within two weeks and lasts six months. Many clients do both.

How much does a SkinVive treatment cost?

At Beauty Ranch in Brentwood, $450 per syringe. Cheeks usually take two syringes ($900), the neck one to two. Los Angeles prices elsewhere run $500 to $900 per syringe.

    Is SkinVive better than filler?

It is different, not better. Filler adds volume and reshapes; SkinVive improves skin quality without changing shape. If you want cheekbones, filler. If you want glow, SkinVive.

    How quickly does SkinVive work?

Skin looks more hydrated within days, and the full smoothing result develops over about two weeks as the microdroplets integrate.

    How long does SkinVive last?

Up to six months. Repeat twice a year to maintain results.

Is SkinVive approved for the neck?

Yes. On June 16, 2026, the FDA approved SkinVive by Juvéderm to reduce neck lines in adults over 21. In the clinical study, 74.8 percent of patients improved at one month and 66 percent maintained improvement at six months.

    Where can SkinVive be used?

SkinVive is FDA approved for the cheeks and, as of June 2026, the neck. Beauty Ranch offers both areas.

What are the side effects of SkinVive?

Small bumps at the injection sites, mild redness, tenderness and occasional bruising for one to three days. Serious side effects are rare, and the product can be dissolved if needed.

Who performs SkinVive at Beauty Ranch?

Beauty Ranch's team of board-certified Physician Assistants and Registered Nurses, under the direction of Nurse Jamie (Jamie Sherrill, RN), performs every SkinVive treatment.
